About Cheryl Baker
A real-life Eastender, Cheryl was born in Bethnal Green on 8th March 1954. Her bubbly personality was evident even in the early days of Bucks Fizz when they won the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in 1981. They went on to gain world-wide recognition with a string of more than 20 hits including three number ones: The Land Of Make Believe, My Camera Never Lies and, of course, Making Your Mind Up. Throughout this period, it was evident that Cheryl would develop a solo career alongside her career in the band.
In 1984 she was asked to present the children's television show, How Dare You, which set the ball rolling for her as a TV presenter. Apart from children's favourites such as Record Breakers and Eggs 'n' Baker, she presented daytime current affairs shows, prime-time Saturday evening shows and even dog agility programmes. During the 90s, Cheryl was on Television 6 days a week. All this, and she was still singing with Bucks Fizz. She continues to work with Mike Nolan and Jay Aston to this day. They perform in theatres and at major festivals throughout the UK, especially 80's weekends. And yes they still rip their skirts off! Cheryl is a regular on prime-time television and was recently seen on Celebrity Masterchef and Pop Star To Operastar, where she came runner-up.
Cheryl made her theatrical debut in the musical "Footloose" in 2006, starring in both the inaugural tour and in the West End. Since then she has starred in dramas such as 'Dial M For Murder', children's favourites including HONK!, Seussical The Musical and Beauty & The Beast (playing Mrs Potts!) and in comedies, including Anybody For Murder and Menopause The Musical.
Cheryl is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to play Mrs. Cunningham on the inaugural tour of 'Happy Days The Musical' throughout the UK in 2014, a role she remembers well as she was an avid Happy Days fan.
